Woodworking Dust Collection

1. Ambient Air Cleaning

Application: Ambient control of airborne wood dust generated from worktable hand sanding. Horizontal air pattern generated by air cleaners entrained airborne dust. Ambient shop air dust load was reduced and air destratified.

Filtration Equipment: Two Airflow Systems Model F70R 3/4 hp, 115v 1 ph; One Airflow Systems Model T-140 "T" Style Ambient Air Cleaners

Special Equipment: F70R units utilize extended surface pre-filter plenums; both models use unit-installed manometer pressure gages.

2. Crafts/Skills Shop—Baghouse

Application: Military Base Crafts/Skills Shop generated heavy dust loads from projects and custom fabrication projects. Existing cyclone collector was outgrown for application airflow need and dust discharge capability. New baghouse system provided 100% tool use dust collection and rotary valve (air lock) provided options for dust storage capability. Clean air was returned to shop through a HEPA after filter. Significantly improved employee/operator health protection and dust handling met safety standards and reduced shop operational costs.

3. Cyclone Collector

Application: Plant upgrade involved changing from individual bag type dust collectors to a new central system that contained dust at one central point and provided adequate airflow to tools. Cyclone style dust collector selected due to generation of larger sized dust particles.

4. Door, Window and Trim Manufacturer—Baghouse

Application: Door, Window and trim manufacturer built new plant and upgraded dust collection system from numerous, individual, portable type collectors to a new central system. Central system powers all tools simultaneously, contains dust at one dumpster source and via use of the spark detection/suppression system, returns tempered air to the facility.

5. Door/Window Manufacturer—Baghouse

Application: Door/window manufacturer relocation project upgraded dust collection system to self-cleaning bag house type and provided increased airflow, cleanable duct work. Use of GreCon spark detection/suppression system allowed for return of tempered air to shop.

6. Door/Window Manufacturer Central System—Baghouse

7. Facility Maintenance Shop

8. Millwork Plant

Application: Millwork company generated large amounts of hardwood dust from the operation of multiple molding machines and wide-belt sanders. The new RF156 is shown on the left along with an additional Torit Model 128HP dust collector and blower system installed approximately 10 years prior. The combined systems handle the full load of dust production.

9. Millwork Plant Expansion—Baghouse

Application: Millwork manufacturer expanded facility with new molders and other CNC machinery which generated heavy loads of dust/chips. RF style collector handled heavy loads with combination cyclonic and bag filtration. RF collector does not use plant compressed air to clean filters. Overall new system increased airflow to tools and simplified material collection.

10. Millwork Production—Round Baghouse

Application: Millwork production from CNC machine tools, molders, wide belt sander and other wood working tools generated significant amounts of dust. Plant modernization project upgraded original cyclone/shaker after system to continuous duty system. Dust material transferred pneumatically through closed loop system to roll off dumpster.

11. Sawdust Material Handling System

Application: Millwork company replaced/upgraded sawdust material handling system from discharge of combination cyclone/bag house dust collection system. System was modified from open loop design that caused collector hopper bridging from material back up due to worn air lock wipers and from damaged spiral piping from disassembly of clogged ductwork. New system is of closed loop design with increased hp to keep material transported at high velocity for transport. Air locks are now on negative pressure thereby eliminating issue of clogged hoppers and clamping ductwork is easy to disassemble in the event of a clogged line.

12. Wood Working Medium Density Fiberboard Round Baghouse

Application: Store fixture manufacturer upgraded European made, shaker style dust collector with increased capacity continuous-duty dust collectors. New system improved overall airflow and handle heavy loads of dust from CNC machine tools. RF series collectors self-clean without the need for plant compressed air. Spark detection/suppression system allowed for filtered air to be returned to facility.

13. Woodworking Shop

Application: Middle School woodworking shop remodel project involved shop relocation and machine tool replacement. New tools were of mini design with 3”-4” diameter connection points which required increased blower pressure capability. Unimaster collector provided required flow, auto filter shaker simplified unit maintenance and source capture tool connections isolated operators from dust build up. Ambient air filters handled dust generated away form dust collector duct connections.

15. Woodworking Shop Upgrade

Application: Middle School wood shop dust collection system upgrade. New UMA-450 replaced outgrown/worn Torit Size 24 Cyclone Style dust Collector. New woodworking tools required increased airflow and new shop layout required new duct system. Heavy class project load generated significant dust loads which required use of Rotary Valve for hopper discharge. New system allowed for 100% tool use, air lock simplified dust removal from system and increased airflow to shop contained dust at source thereby protecting students and instructor. Clean air recycled.
